Is There Any Such Thing As The Perfect Weekend?

They inevitably feel too short and often leave me with the sense that I could've, and probably should've, achieved more. Whether it's house-keeping, gardening, cooking, crafting, socialising or simply sitting still I always find it hard to strike the balance between what I should do, what I want to do and what really needs doing.

Weekends are a tricky beast to tame. Not least because I am a serial list-maker. Throughout my working week you can catch me stealing a moment of company time to add things to the poor, pilfered little yellow post-its that sit in my desk drawer hoping to be part of the professional world but, more often than not, condemned to a variety of personal uses usually attached to my diary.

The lists range from shopping; food we need, food we don't need but I've noticed we've run out of or things we will need and are on the cusp of running out of. To housework; laundry (and its sub-categories), vaccuuming, dusting, cleaning the bathroom, mopping the floors. To the inane; filing, updating the ipod, registering for online banking. To the crafty; cable jumper, CK purse, items to be fixed. To the ridiculously forward thinking; gift ideas for the coming months.

That's right, I even make a list just in case I need to add to a list when the eureka moment strikes and I know just what to buy my best beloveds... Dear oh dear. This compulsion of mine sounds even worse now that I've written it all down.

Obviously, there are more...

But I think it would be safest for everyones health if we don't go too far down that road.

My point was that I spend a lot of time making lists of things that need doing at the weekends and can often overlook things I simply want to do. But this weekend was an exception, I did everything my little OCD brain needed to get done to feel good about itself as well as catching up with friends, eating with family and getting out in the fresh air. I also lazed about watching films with the cats, went for a jog, cooked awesome things like this pesto, parma ham and mozzarella roll to accompany my Mums potato and celeriac soup

had breakfast in bed

having taken a hot chocolate to bed with me the night before

stitched my other halfs valentines pressie

and made a good start on the scarf I'm making for my father-in-law

All in all it was a really lovely weekend even if I couldn't spend it with my other half.

Sometimes there's nothing nice than a bit of me time.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend whether you were surrounded by friends and family or managed to grab a little alone time too.

Oh, and the housework didn't get done ;0)
